Our fabrication workshop is equipped to fabricate a wide range of steel products.

• 3 x 5 tonne overhead cranes
• Rolling of plate up to 25mm x 1m x 750mm radius
• Pressing – Manual and CNC brake pressing. Extensive experience in pressing plate up to 60mm thick. Technical knowledge and experience in pressing duplex Stainless Steels to 180°
• Guillotining, shearing and punching of mild steel up to 12mm thick
• Bandsaw cutting of structural sections up to 300mm x 600mm

Our fabricators have experience in a range of structural steel (including fabricating non-standard beams), water jackets, hoppers, bins, tanks, duct work, pipework, pressure vessels, screw conveyors, heat exchanger fins, railway components (locomotive and wagon) and custom industrial equipment.

Our welding team can provide SMAW, GMAW/MCAW/FCAW (MIG), MMAW (Arc) and GTAW (TIG) to any client-provided or Australian Standard specifications. We have an extensive welding procedure library and have the in-house capability to develop client/project-based weld procedures that are tested and verified to comply with any Australian Standard.

Our in-house Cert 10 Welding Supervisor ensures all welding is completed to a high standard with the appropriate quality checks to ensure our welding exceeds client expectations.

Our experienced, qualified welders have experience in welding a wide range of steel types, including stainless steel and titanium, and can provide welding to required client and/or Australian Standards.

All Non-destructive Testing (NDT/NDE) is carried out by an independent, NATA approved, third party with a copy of the report provided to our client upon project completion.

Our fitting and machining shop is equipped to provide a wide range of processes, including;

• Machining, drilling, turning, boring, threading a wide variety of parts
• Turning capability up to 1200mm and 6m long
• CN turning for repeated jobs to ensure that each item has identical dimensions
• 3D CNC milling a wide range of operations including surfacing, drillings, boring, thread cutting and chamfering
• Overhaul and fitting of industrial equipment; bearings, fans, shafts, motors, and couplers
• HAAS SL30 Big Bore CNC Lathe, 380mm diameter hydraulic chuck, 80mm diameter spindle bore, 12 tool turret station capable of max turning diameter 380mm, max length between centres 600mm
• AJAX FEL-2800×1600 CNC Lathe, 400mm diameter 3 jaw chuck, 500mm diameter 4 jaw chuck 105mm diameter spindle bore, 8 tool turret station, maximum turning diameter 520mm, maximum between centres 1400mm
• Correa Euro 2000 CNC vertical Gantry Milling Machine, ISO 40 spindle taper, bed of 2000mm x 1000mm, travel x 2000mm y 1250mm z 650mm, max weight on table 5000kgs
• CME-BF03 CNC Bed Milling Machine with Universal Head, ISO 50 spindle taper, bed of 2200mm x 850mm, travel x 2000mm y 900mm z 900mm, maximum weight on table 5700kgs

SJ Cheesman currently refurbishes critical plant/equipment for a wide range of clients. This includes stripping down the component(s), completing an assessment of the work required to restore the equipment back to its full operational capability.

Any items that require fabrication/machining are completed in our workshops to give our clients the ability to complete inspections as required. All items are fabricated to client specifications/drawings to ensure the refurbished components meet expectations.

A strip and assess report is provided, outlining our findings, works to be completed and any potential improvements that could increase the life/productivity of the component.

SJ Cheesman is fully equipped with a 6 x 6 x 8m grit blasting booth and can grit blast to classes 1-5.

We can provide industrial painting for a range of finishes, including three-coat industrial finishes, high temperature rating coatings and acid resistant epoxies.

We also offer an abrasive blasting service.

SJ Cheesman can provide an extensive range of workshop services at customer sites. Our staff hold a wide range of qualifications, licenses and clearances and are happy to undertake site-specific training and inductions.
